Tinubu signs old national anthem bill into law
By Stephen Asaba-ase
President Bola Tinubu has officially signed the National Anthem Bill into law, reinstating “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” as the country’s national anthem. This announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives on Wednesday.
In his address to the lawmakers, President Tinubu also indicated that he would soon introduce the 2024 Supplementary Bill. According to Senate President Akpabio, the President’s visit was a courtesy call to greet the lawmakers, as he was already present to commission the National Assembly Library.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, apologized for the earlier misinformation regarding the President’s visit, attributing it to an error on the part of the National Assembly.
He stated that the President has requested that any scheduled speeches be postponed until June 12, which is Democracy Day. On that day, the President will formally introduce the new national anthem and proceed with other important engagements.
