The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Burutu North in the March 18, 2023 Delta State House Of Assembly, Hon. Asupa Peter Forteta while reacting to the judgement by the Delta State Election Petition Tribunal ordering rerun for the assembly polls said the court ruling was for the good of Burutu people and Peoples Democracy Party, PDP, adding that it was a road map to reclaim his lost mandate.

He urged supporters to be calmed, assuring them that their stolen mandate would be reclaimed soon.

Congress learnt that the Delta State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in the state capital, Asaba had earlier nullified the alleged election victory of Honourable Alapala Ebitonmo who was earlier declared winner of the polls by INEC.

Our correspondent gathered that the Hon. Alapala’s victory was annulled due to over-voting, and the panel had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise a rerun elections in some units of the constituency.

However, Foreta who served alone term in the Delta State House Of Assembly lost the March 18 polls to his opponent of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Alapala.

Speaking to newsmen he said,
“The Election Petition Tribunal has given its judgement, and I must respect that even though it wasn’t a perfect one according to evidences provided before the court.

“My attention is now on the rerun as the court has ruled. I have an election, so also the PDP. I believe the party would not leave its pride of winning elections in the winds this time.

“I trust the leadership, stakeholders, and members of the party in the local government will come out prepared with better strategies to reclaim their mandate.

“Meanwhile, I want to appreciate all those who stood by me during the legal processes to get constitutional electoral justice.

“I want to also urge my supporters and the entire PDP family to be peaceful and remain loyal to the party ahead of the rerun election, knowing that we must reclaim the Burutu North seat in the state house of Assembly”, Forteta reiterates.
