2023: Warri boils as protest halts commercial activities

Concerned residents and traders in Warri, Delta state commercial city have stormed the popular Warri/Sapele road to protest over the fuel hike and naira notes hoarding in the country.

Congress gathered that the protest had paralyzed commercial activities in the popular main market in Warri, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta state on Friday morning.

The protesters accused fuel marketers and various bank managers of being responsible for the current hardship befalling citizens of the country.

The protest which took place on Friday morning took a concerted effort of the Nigerian military to calm and dislodge protesters, as it promised to prevail on relevant authorities to address the situation.

The protesters who came out en mass said the protest would continue till the federal and state governments prevailed upon the current situation.

The protest had caused gridlock on the popular Warri/ Sapele road and other major roads in the commercial city.

They lamented that the naira notes are being sold in high amounts by bankers and POS operators and fuel is also being hoarded by marketers.

According to the protesters, many families were now dying of hunger due to the scarcity of the naira notes, as internet banking is being frustrated by bad networks.

The angry residents said transportation had skyrocketed and can’t be afforded by the common man.

They stressed that unless the situation is addressed timely, no electorate would vote in the upcoming elections in the country.
