Nigerian troops successfully repelled an ambush by suspected insurgents in Wajiroko, Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, the army said Friday.

The 25 Task Force Brigade, on a routine patrol to secure communities near the Sambisa Forest, came under sudden heavy fire while returning from operations. The patrol, led by Brigade Commander Brigadier General M. Uba, included soldiers from the brigade and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

According to the Nigerian Army, the troops fought back with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray and abandon their mission. Two soldiers and two CJTF members were killed in the clash. The army commended their bravery and expressed condolences to the families of the fallen.

Army Headquarters also addressed recent online reports falsely claiming the abduction of Brigadier General Uba, urging the public to disregard the rumors.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff, praised the troops’ resilience and courage, calling their dedication “a powerful reminder of the daily sacrifices being made to keep Nigeria safe.”

The Nigerian military has been engaged in sustained operations against insurgent groups in the northeast, particularly around Sambisa Forest, one of the country’s most volatile conflict zones.
