Senate President Godswill Akpabio has responded to the planned nationwide protest with a dismissive tone, telling organizers to “go ahead” with their demonstration while Nigerians “eat and watch”.

Akpabio made this statement on Tuesday while addressing delegates of the Niger Delta Development Commission in Rivers State. He appeared unconcerned about the protest, citing the Niger-Delta people’s lack of interest in regime change.

The Senate President assured that the National Assembly is prepared to assist with legislation to address environmental pollution and oil spillage in the region. He emphasized that specific issues faced by the Niger Delta will be contained in a communique to be presented to President Bola Tinubu.

Akpabio’s statement comes ahead of the planned nationwide protest scheduled for Thursday, which aims to address various grievances, including economic hardship and bad governance.
