Multiple award-winning Niger Delta rights activist, Comrade Ozobo Austin has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appropriate the $150m Abacha looted funds to boost critical infrastructures in the Niger Delta region, adding that the money is part of the Niger Delta oil funds being stolen by Abacha.

The rights don stated this in a statement which he signed by himself and a copy was sent to newsmen on Wednesday.

Ozobo explained that there is no region but Niger Delta should benefit from the money, insisting that it would amount to injustice for the Nigerian government not to appropriate the fund for the development of the Niger Delta region.

He further said it would be of wrong argument for anybody to lay false claims that the money belongs to the Nigerian government because the money was sourced from Niger Delta crude oil sales.

The civil society advocate explained that during the Abacha regime, oil was the sole source of revenue in the country and that the oil deposits were only in the Niger Delta region, hence it was correct to say the money is Niger Delta money and not the Nigerian government’s money.

Ozobo maintained that the money recovered from Abacha’s loot should be channelled to the development of the impoverished Niger Delta region for equity and justice.
