FG Launches Subsidised Rice Program, Requires NIN for Purchase
By Stephen Asaba-ase
The Federal Government has initiated a program to sell 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice at a subsidized price of ₦40,000 per 50kg bag, exclusively to Nigerians with a valid National Identification Number (NIN).
This effort aims to combat racketeering, reduce food prices, and alleviate the ongoing food crisis. The program’s “one person, one bag” policy ensures fair distribution, while NIN verification and phone number registration prevent fraud.
The government has implemented measures to ensure transparency and equal access, urging citizens to cooperate for the initiative’s success.
This program is part of the government’s broader efforts to address food insecurity, including the release of 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities to vulnerable populations.
