How 16 suspects were arrested over anti-EFCC protest in Delta

No fewer than sixteen suspects have been arrested by the Nigerian army over the violent protests by some youths in solidarity with suspected internet fraudsters against what they described as incessant raids and harassment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Delta State.

The suspects were nabbed by soldiers deployed to Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government to dismiss the protesters, which led to the burning of 15 trucks, including other private properties in the area.

The suspects were rounded up during the protest after several properties were destroyed and three protesters shot dead. A security source said the suspects had been transferred to the Delta State Police Command in Asaba.

Recall, some youths in solidarity with suspected internet fraudsters protested in Delta state, calling for an end to incessant raids of hideouts of Yahoo boys by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Delta state.

Some inscriptions on their placards read: “End EFCC Now,” “EFCC Should Go after Politicians Who Are Also Fraudsters,” and “We Are Not Criminals but Hustlers” among several others.

When contacted, the Delta state police Command, spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the arrests, adding they were apprehended by soldiers and handed over to the police for further investigation.
