The Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative (IPDI) has strongly condemned the police brutality meted out on protesters and journalists during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance and #Hunger protests across the nation.

In a statement by the group’s president, Comrade Ozobo Austin described the actions of the security operatives as undemocratic, unacceptable, and a gross violation of human rights. The organization expressed concern over the use of excessive force, tear gas, and live bullets on unarmed protesters, resulting in injuries and loss of lives.

IPDI also decried the attacks on journalists, who were simply performing their duties, and called for an immediate end to such brutality. The organization urged the government to respect the rights of citizens to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.

Furthermore, IPDI demanded that the government take responsibility for the actions of its security operatives and ensure that those responsible for the brutality are brought to justice. The organization reiterated its commitment to promoting democratic values, human rights, and the well-being of the Ijaw people and Nigerians at large.
