Edo State Ijaw Riverine Communities were seen jubilating following the appointment of Dr Dennis Otuaro as the new Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

It was learned that the Coalition of the Riverine Communities had wholeheartedly endorsed Chief Dr Otuaro for the prestigious role, considering his deep experience and commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region.

The Coalition, in a statement expressed confidence that under Chief Otuaro’s leadership, the era of neglect and marginalization felt by riverine communities would come to an end, adding that he fought alongside ex-agitators and that he intimately understood the challenges they face and would ensure their needs are prioritised.

The Coalition said the Edo riverine communities had been marginalised for too long, noting that appointments and opportunities had passed Edo riverine communities bye.

However, they believed Dr Otuaro’s longstanding relationships and respect within the communities will help reverse this trend. “His appointment is seen as a victory for accurate representation of the Niger Deltans’ interests.

The Coalition Spokesperson Comrade Ezekiel Daniel commended His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , Commander of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria, for recognising Dr Otuaro’s for the lofty appointment, despite attempts to discredit him by group of charlatans parading themselves as ex-agitators. “This is a man with immense experience in development and security matters. We are grateful the appointment was based on his superb track record.”

The group’s Secretary, Hon. Samuel Pune Uroupa also speak in the same vein. He said: “No one understands the struggles on the ground better than our brother Otuaro. Under his leadership, amnesty program will achieve its true potential and positively impact on riverine communities.”

The Coalition also thanked freedom fighter and Ijaw Nation leader, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo for playing a KEY role in endorsing Otuaro, seeing him as the best candidate to restore PAP’s original vision as set by late President Yar’Adua. “With his PhD in development and experience in sectors like infrastructure, Dr Otuaro is poised to revitalize the program.

The group National Coordinator Ipikuimoh Godfrey Owei While expressing their joy, pledged their full cooperation. “This is a proud moment for our people. We will support Dr Otuaro’s effort to bringing real, sustainable change through skills, jobs and equality of access.

The statement reads, “over the years, our people have been sidelined from playing leading and key role, which greatly affect our axis in the absence of educational, empowerment and skill acquisition centres like it is obtainable in other states.

“President Tinubu’s choice of Dr Otuaro to lead PAP reflects his commitment to involving effective leaders in the Niger Delta’s development. Under Chief Otuaro’s governance, a new chapter will begin in the region and its communities” the National Coordinator emphasised.

“The Coalition extend our warmest congratulations to Dr Otuaro and expressed optimism that with his vast experience, expertise and community ties, he will help ensure the Presidential Amnesty Programme achieves its true purpose” Ipikuimoh added.
