A renowned advocacy group under the auspices of Niger Delta Transparency Network, NDTN, has lent its voice against the Coalition of Civil Society Organisation calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the appointment of Chief (Dr) Dennis Otuaro, the substantive administrative head of the Presidential amnesty programme (PAP).

According to a press statement issued and signed by its President Mr Emury Bekenawei and Mr James Aloro on 3rd May 2024, said Chief Otuaro had track-record in the Niger Delta liberation struggle and sustainable advancement of the Ijaw cause which gave birth to the amnesty programme.

The statement reads, “we totally condemn and imprecate these protesters with a sordid mind against Chief Dennis Otuaro. He has the capacity to deliver on the mandate of the Presidential Amnesty programme which is to build trust and douse tension in the region. Consequently, any Niger Delta born son and Daughter fighting to review Otuaro’s appointment is considered as an enemy to the Ijaw Nation.

The group averred that the Niger Delta people should try to stop pull down syndrome and join hands with successive appointees and elective office holders to transform the region.

The group’s president Bekenawei appealed to Mr President to give a deaf ear to the faceless Coalition of Civil Society Organization with a frivolous protest. He further admonished Mr President to provide every plausible support to Chief (Dr) Dennis Otuaro to restructure and redefine the preconceived vision of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

“Let’s give Chief Dennis Otuaro the needed support to propel the affairs of the Presidential Amnesty Mandate. We cannot achieve good progress if we don’t stop these infractions”.

“Otuaro’s is the best man for the job, Mr president should ignore malicious attacks against him”.
