The South-South Traditional Council, FCT, convened a significant world press conference today, March 13, 2025, calling for an end to the unwarranted blackmail, incessant attacks, and organized protests against leaders from the Niger Delta region. Chaired by His Royal Highness, Chief (Dr.) Dennis Burutu Otuaro, the conference aimed to address pressing issues affecting the dignity and progress of the Niger Delta.
In his opening remarks, Chief Otuaro emphasized the dangers posed by recent attacks on the integrity of political leaders in the region. He expressed deep concern about the unjustified criticisms and protests that have targeted political office holders, underscoring that these actions hinder the peace and development goals shared by the community.
The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Chief Otuaro, has faced considerable scrutiny amid a wave of baseless allegations aimed at tarnishing his reputation. “Chief Otuaro is a man of integrity, with a vision and resilience that is crucial for the Niger Delta’s development,” stated a member of the council during the conference. He highlighted the commitment of the administrator to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” noting that his leadership is critically benefiting the region.
Addressing dissenting voices, the council urged those engaging in negative campaigns to exercise patience and propose their leadership aspirations through the appropriate channels rather than resorting to disruptions. “If you believe you are more qualified, wait for your turn,” the chairman stated.
Asserting a united front, the council condemned any actions that seek to damage the reputation of political leaders, stressing the importance of building rather than tearing down. They called for collaboration to support growth and peaceful development in the region.
The conference also featured an affirmation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and the transformative potential of the “Renewed Hope Agenda.” The council expressed gratitude to the President for appointing capable leaders like Chief Otuaro, whose administration has been marked by initiatives aimed at fostering peace and empowering former militants.
In a powerful declaration, the South-South Traditional Council passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Chief Otuaro’s leadership, highlighting his commitment and success in driving positive change in the Niger Delta. They urged citizens to rally around his efforts to reclaim the region’s lost glory.
In closing, the gathering reiterated its dedication to peace and development, calling upon all stakeholders to unite in support of their leaders. The council sent a heartfelt message to the press, thanking them for amplifying their calls for unity and progress.
“Together, we can build a Niger Delta that we can all be proud of,” concluded Chief Otuaro, emphasizing the collective responsibility to uphold the values of peace and cooperation in Nigeria.
