Two people remanded in jail after destroying fence at Enugu airport
By Hannah Nathan, Warri
Two defendants were placed in detention by a magistrate court located in the capital of Enugu State for their alleged involvement in tearing down the perimeter fence of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
It had been claimed that on Friday, armed criminals broke into the building and destroyed a section of the outer fence.
Men from the Nigerian Air Force apprehended and turned over to the police a number of the accused.
Later, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Enugu State Command, confirmed the arrest.
Our reporter reports that the accused persons were arraigned before the magistrate court presided over by His Worship Apolonia Edeani on Monday.
Mr. Jude Jonathan Emejulu, another person, and unidentified others were among those who were arraigned.
They were charged under Section 1 (3) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
After both defendants entered not-guilty pleas to the charges, Alex Amujiogu, their attorney, asked the court to grant them bail.
Nevertheless, Amujiogu’s attempts to obtain their release on bond were unsuccessful due to their purported history of recurrently engaging in the same offence against the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria or FAAN.
The prosecution, Barr Justus Attah, OC Legal, Enugu State Police Command, presented the counterargument.
The court decided to remand Mr Emejulu and another person.
