As the coup in the Niger Republic is getting to another stage following the removal of its president, the Nigerian Senate has called on the ECOWAS parliament and other leaders to condemn the coup d’etat in the country.

The Nigerian Senate rejected the planned military intervention in the Niger Republic by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the situation should be addressed politically rather than using military action.

Tinubu had earlier written the Senate on Friday, seeking for the implementation of the Resolutions of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government on the political situation in Niger Republic.

However, during a closed-door session raised by the Senate leader, Bamidele Opeyemi, the senate rejected military intervention and insisted on engaging with the Nigerian president on resolving the issue.

The senate commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the chairman of ECOWAS, and other Heads of state of ECOWAS on their prompt response.
