The Egbema Kingdom, one of the most ancient thrones in southern Nigeria, has announced the passing of its revered monarch, His Royal Majesty Pere Meshack E. Ubabiri (JP), the Bini Pere IV. The 59th Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom, spanning both Edo and Delta States, has joined his ancestors.

The traditional council of chiefs made the announcement in a statement yesterday at Ogbudugbudu town, marking the end of an era for one of the region’s most successful rulers. Following the symbolic breaking of the Pere Okpor staff, a solemn ceremony conducted by the traditional council, the community gathered to mourn the loss of HRM Pere Meshack E.A. Ubabiri.

As the priest of Egbema Egbesu, HRM Pere Meshack E.A. Ubabiri played a significant role in the cultural and spiritual fabric of the Egbema people. His departure marks a pivotal moment in the kingdom’s history, with traditional rites underscoring the gravity of the loss.

The kingdom has entered a period of mourning, and further details regarding the burial rites and succession process are being waited.
