The founder of the Ikorodu Ambassadors Group, Mr Adedeji Fatuga, has written an open letter to the Executive Governor of Lagos, Mr Babajide Olushola Sanwo – Olu, over the non-working conditions of street lights in lkorodu.

Fatuga, who stated that the lack of street lights have increased crimes in some of the areas in Ikorodu, adding that provision of effective light, especially at night, is vital to the attainment of Smart City status and good governance in Lagos State.

He appealed for the intervention of the Governor in providing street lights in critical areas in the Division.

Part of the letter reads: ” Sir, as part of your commitments in transforming the Lagos business terrain into a smart city, you concluded arrangements towards replacing the existing street lighting system into a smarter and more efficient LED street light, and also made sure that all the newly constructed roads in Lagos, come with street lights, which Lagosians appreciated.

“But in Ikorodu, all the lights on the road are not working (Existing and New), most especially those ones on Obafemi Awolowo Road (From Ota-Ona to Itamaga) and those on Itamaga-Ijede Road (from Itamaga to Elepe).

“Due to this, armed robbery, kidnapping, ritual killings, murders and other related crimes have increased.

“We all are aware that as Lagos State is evolving into a Smart City, the utilisation of smart and energy efficient streetlights is vital in ensuring improved government service delivery in areas of security of lives and property of Lagosians and environmental sustainability.”
