Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1) is a renowned fuji maestro within and outside Nigeria. His popularity that started with the hit song Tala ’84 has not waned ever since.

KWAM 1 as many fans like to call him has remained relevant more than four decades thereafter, not just lyrically but also politically. As for me, his single label song “Ade Ori Okin” released about four years ago is still the best.

On the street, he is worshipped heroically while in politics he can be referred to as “a friend of the president.”

The president of Nigeria, Ahmed Bola Tinubu like to have KWAM 1 around himself anytime there is an important Owambé party to attend.

In essence, the fuji king is a big man and when he speaks, people pay attention.

Recently, KWAM 1 lost his aged mother and as part of the burial rites, Islamic clerics (Alfas) flocked his residence on condolence and spiritual intercession purposes.

However, the visit did not go down well with the music maestro and he did not waste time in voicing his displeasure.

He said that the Alfas came purposely to ganusilé (which means to open the mouth or salivate in anticipation of something) in his house instead of going to his father or late mother’s residence for such prayers!

That remark has since generated mixed reactions among Nigerians.

In Ondo State, some politicians could be likened to those Alfas that went to KWAM 1 house to ganusilé for a possible naira rain under the guise of religious burial rites.

Since the declaration of Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the winner of the gubernatorial election by INEC in November, 2024 and the dissolution of the state’s executive council, some political jobbers have thrown caution to the wind by their desperate manoeuvring to get appointment or re appointment and be in the corridor of power in Ondo State.

Awón oloselu ti ganusilé (politicians have opened their mouths, salivating) scheming and permutating how and what ways to get the attention of the governor or those that are close to him.

Rather than allow their work or contribution to the political party and or the state to be the determining factor for promotion or recognition, many of the power mongers have resorted to cheap blackmail and broad day gangsterism to seek for political compensation.

Some youth organizations from the South Senatorial Zone of the state have even threatened to embark on a “heavy protest” on February 15th, 2025 should the governor of the state (who is an Ilajé man) refuse to do their biddings and fill their opened mouth with every available political appointments in the state. According to this groups, it is the turn of Ilajés to have the largest chunk of the cake of the state. Wón ti ganusilé!

Transfer of aggression is also part of the agenda of some others to drive home their points. And their target unfortunately is Mrs Omowunmi Isaac, the state’s Commissioner for Finance.

On regular basis, politicians who have unashamedly ganusilé have been trying everything possible to turn the governor and the Honourable Commissioner for Finance against each other.

These set of people who are jittery and not sure if they will make the new list of government appointees will stop at nothing in uprooting their perceived enemy out of the way.

From the mundane to the ridiculous, these political rabble rousers have increased their tantrums against the person and office of the finance commissioner.

Nevertheless, available information has it that the governor of the state is pleased with the performances of the commissioner and also the financial stability and prosperity being recorded so far in the state and that there can never be any amount of blackmail, intimidation or mudslinging that will stampede him to taking any rash decision concerning governance in Ondo State.

It is true that Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa the performing governor is an Ilajé man, but he is first and foremost the father of all Ondo State people.

The governor is highly cerebral and also have the mandate to rule and for sure he will deliver on his mandate without fear or favour.

To those who have ganusilé politically, they should exercise restraint, caution and decorum without having to pull others down because abanijé eniyan to nba eniyan jé kiri, ójó to ba ti d’akun ati banijé, ni a o ba ó jé kan’lé (a disparager who disparages others will end up being devoured by shame and doom eventually).
