Human rights advocate, Femi Falana, has asked the Attorney General Of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to provide security for demonstrators, amid the scheduled protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the hardship Nigerians are experiencing.

It would be recalled that the NLC would on Tuesday, February 27 and Wednesday, February 28 demonstrate nationwide due to the increase of the prices of goods and services following the removal of fuel subsidy and devaluation of the naira.

Falana in a letter dated February 24 and sent to the Attorney General of the Federation, said Section 83(4) of the Police Act enable the Minister of Justice to provide security cover for the protesters.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), also addressed the organised labour union to carry out their planned rallies to be devoid of violence.

“we admonished the members of the NLC to conduct the protest scheduled for February 27-28, 2024 in harmonious manner, we urge you to use your good offices to direct the Inspector-General of Police to make available adequate security to the conveners and participants of the rallies in line with the provisions of Section 83(4) of the Police Act”.

“Finally, while expecting your favourable response to this letter, please accept, as usual, the assurance of our highest esteem”.
