A frontline chairmanship aspirant of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Comrade Ozobo Austin has commended High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, leader of the defunct Movement of the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, RT. Hon. Julius Pondi, member representing Burutu federal constituency, Chief Kestin Pondi, the Managing director of the Tantita Security Services Limited and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, the senator representing Delta South senatorial district for their unwavering contributions towards the speedy passage of the Bill of an act of the establishment of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko.
This is according to a statement by himself and sent to a Congress correspondent on Thursday.
Ozobo, in the statement, had called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expedite efforts to assent to the bill for the development and improvement of academic activities in the university, while citing the importance of the university to the impoverished Niger Delta oil-rich region.
He said the Maritime University bill wouldn’t have come to the limelight if not for the selfless sacrifices of Tompolo, Julius, Kestin and Joel-Onowakpo, considering how the bill had suffered a serious setback in the previous national assembly, noting that Ijaw Nation and Niger Delta is proud of their good works.
Ozobo maintained that Ijaw People were lucky to have Tompolo in their midst, adding that his consistent voluntary services for Ijaw Nation and Niger Delta would be forever remembered.
He further commended Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas for initiating the bill for the establishment of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, stating that with this gesture he had written his name in gold.
Ozobo also thanked Chief Kestin Pondi and Rt. Hon. Julius Pondi for facilitating the process of the speedy hearing and passage of the Bill. He urged them not to be tired of the support they are giving to the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Ijaw Nation and Niger Delta region at large, adding that God would reward them for their good works.
While commending the goodwill of the Nigerian senate, Ozobo appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give a speedy assent to the bill to give Ijaw people and Niger Delta a sense of belonging in his administration.
